Volunteering

Support After Suicide is supported by volunteers with lived experience of suicide bereavement to deliver our services.

It is very satisfying to be able to give something back to a program which has helped me so much.

Support After Suicide Volunteer

Our volunteers all understand what it is like to lose a loved one to suicide.  They have been a participant in some or all of our services and find volunteering with us a way to give back and an opportunity to support others going through a similar experience.  Some of the roles our volunteers assist with are taking the role of peer supporter in our monthly support groups, help organise our coffee mornings, assist with activities in our Serious Fun program, or are invited to speak to the family and friends of people partaking in our Early Bereavement Program.  Our volunteers undergo extensive training prior to supporting our program.

“There is an immediate connection and easy rapport [with other bereaved people] that you don’t get anywhere else. It is rewarding. You get as much out of it as you give.”
