Standby

StandBy is a national suicide bereavement response service that provides a coordinated community crisis response to families, friends and associates who have been bereaved through suicide. They are located in many areas of Australia. Check their website for details.

Roses in the Ocean

Australia’s national lived experience of suicide organisation, Roses in the Ocean exists to save lives and to reduce emotional distress and pain.

Roses in the Ocean offers a 48 hour call back service for people with lived experience of suicide to connect with others with a shared experience. Please note, this is not a crisis line.

Postvention Australia

Postvention Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping people bereaved by suicide.  Their website includes a helpful directory for people bereaved by suicide to find support in their area.

Thirrili

Thirrili provides emotional and practical support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples impacted by a loss from suicide or other fatal traumatic incidents.

Hope Bereavement Care (Geelong)

Support After Suicide, in partnership with Hope Bereavement Care in Geelong provides free information, support and counselling to any person affected by the loss of a loved one to suicide and those caring for them.  They also run regular support groups for people bereaved by suicide.

The Compassionate Friends

The Compassionate Friends Victoria (TCFV) is a state-wide, mutual support and self-help organisation established in Victoria in 1978. TCFV provides bereavement peer support to families following the death of a child, sibling or grandchild at any age and from any cause.

Switchboard Victoria

Switchboard Victoria offers suicide bereavement groups for LGBTQIA+ people bereaved by suicide to find support and connect with others. Find out more here.

Nalag

The National Association for Loss and Grief (NSW) is a support network for people experiencing loss and grief. The organisation provides grief services to individuals, families and communities through its Grief Support service and has branches in Dubbo (Head Office), Mudgee, Hunter and Sydney (Telephone).

SOS Survivors of Suicide Bereavement Association

SOS Survivors of Suicide Bereavement Association (SOSBSA) is a non-profit and charitable self help association formed by and for people bereaved by suicide in Queensland.

They hold regular support groups in Brisbane and Townsville.

Compassionate Friends QLD

The Compassionate Friends Queensland was formed by bereaved parents who recognised that their feelings of confusion and isolation were common to all parents who have lost a child and felt a need to talk to someone who had been through a similar experience to their own.

Anglicare SA

Anglicare SA delivers StandBy in South Australia.  Their StandBy service is free and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all South Australians who have been bereaved or impacted by suicide at any stage in their life.

Lifeline Tasmania

Lifeline Tasmania, in partnership with Albie House, host monthly (excluding January) support groups for those who have been bereaved by suicide.  Groups operate in the north, north-west and south of Tasmania.

ARBOR

ARBOR stands for Active Response Bereavement Outreach.  ARBOR is a free service offering short-medium term grief counselling, practical & emotional support, appropriate referral support, volunteer lived-experience peer support, and support groups to people recently impacted by losing loved ones to suicide.
